Mathilukalkkappuram – Letters Beyond Boundaries

The Department of English, Wadhihuda Institute of Research and Advanced Studies (WIRAS) organized "Mathilukalkkappuram – Letters Beyond Boundaries," a handwritten letter writing competition on 6 July 2026 to commemorate the death anniversary of the renowned Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. As part of the programme, a specially designed letter box was placed on the college campus, inviting students to submit original handwritten letters inspired by the themes of love, companionship, and human connection. The initiative sought to revive the art of handwritten communication while encouraging students to express their thoughts creatively through letters. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, reflecting their appreciation for literature and creative writing. The submitted entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges, and the best letters will be recognized with cash prizes. The programme successfully celebrated Basheer's enduring literary legacy while fostering creativity, emotional expression, and a love for the written word among students.
