Certificate Course on “Basic Critical Theories in English Literature
The Department of English, WIRAS, successfully conducted a Certificate Course titled “Basic Critical Theories in English Literature” for VI Semester BA English students from 4 to 11 November 2025. Structured as an intensive 30-hour programme, the course introduced students to key concepts and critical frameworks in literary and cultural studies. Major areas covered included Classical Criticism, Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Postcolonialism, Feminism, and related theoretical perspectives. The programme witnessed active participation from all enrolled students. It concluded with an evaluation test, through which participants demonstrated a commendable understanding of the theoretical concepts discussed. To further enhance analytical and collaborative skills, a Group Discussion was organized on 17 November 2025. The session provided students with an opportunity to engage critically with the theories and exchange diverse perspectives. This initiative proved to be a valuable academic endeavour, significantly strengthening the students’ theoretical foundation in literary studies.
