Environment Day celebration
As part of World Environment Day celebrations, NSS Unit 48, WIRAS, collaborated with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) for a mangrove conservation initiative at the Kannur Kandal Project. Twenty-eight NSS volunteers collected seeds from mangrove trees and removed plastic waste, contributing to the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" - a key focus of this year's Environment Day.
The volunteers were guided by WTI Project officer Mr. Sanal C Vishwanathan, Field Officers Mr. A Bharath Kumar, Mr. V N Vimal Lakshman, field staff Mr. Naveen, and Ms. Arya, who shared valuable insights on mangrove vegetation and biodiversity. Later, Mr. M Sreedharan, President of Cheruthazham Gramapanchayat, inaugurated the program, where volunteers shared their experiences. Mrs. Vineetha C, Assistant Professor in Commerce, addressed the volunteers during the inaugural session.
